Anaheim International Film Festival Gains Momentum as the Community Embraces its Cultural, Educational and Economic Opportunities
- Local Businesses and Residents Sign Up to Participate in Orange County's Newest Major International Film Festival -
ANAHEIM, Calif. – MARCH 10, 2010 – The inaugural Anaheim International Film Festival, debuting October 2010, is generating tremendous support from the community as local businesses and residents sign up as festival sponsors, partners and volunteers. In addition to bringing an exciting new dimension to Anaheim’s entertainment landscape, the AIFF is being recognized for the significant cultural, educational and economic benefits it will bring to the surrounding areas. As Anaheim’s first truly international film festival, the AIFF will celebrate the works of not only local filmmakers, but those from around the world. Submissions have already been received from Spain, Australia, South Africa, Cameroon, New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, Irvine, Santa Ana and Anaheim.
"The Anaheim International Film Festival puts Anaheim on the map as a cultural destination for leisure and business travelers from around the world," says Tony Toth, convention sales director for the Anaheim/Orange County Visitor & Convention Bureau. "I am certain that our entire hospitality community will see this as one of the most exciting and unique cultural events ever to take place in the city of Anaheim - appealing to both residents and visitors alike! Anaheim is a melting pot that represents many nations. As a truly international film festival, the AIFF will complement our diversity while bringing significant visitor traffic and strengthening the local economy. The AIFF gives Anaheim a distinct edge in remaining a desirable tourism destination and dynamic place to conduct business."
"I’m absolutely thrilled that the AIFF is bringing Hollywood to Orange County," says Bruno Serato, proprietor of the Anaheim White House Restaurant, a fine dining establishment legendary for its celebrity clientele. "Anaheim is home to some of the top brands in the world, recognized in the fields of entertainment, sports, business and so much more. The time is ripe for our great city to make its mark in the movie industry, and that’s precisely what the Anaheim International Film Festival brings to the table. Having been in business for over 20 years in Anaheim, I know that local companies and residents will really enjoy and benefit from being the host community for this historic event."
One of the Anaheim International Film Festival’s top priorities is to engage community youth via the AIFF Youth Education Program. The AIFF will work with Anaheim students, teachers and community leaders to promote media literacy, broaden insights into other cultures, and develop critical thinking skills through screenings, interactive discussions, and other special events. As part of the program, the AIFF will invite elementary, middle and high school students and their teachers to attend festival screenings and workshops and participate fully in the Festival experience or take advantage of the many volunteer positions available within the festival.
"I’m always looking for new volunteer opportunities since Fairmont students love to give back to the community, especially to the city of Anaheim," says Anna Kunkle, community service coordinator for Fairmont Preparatory Academy, one of the largest private schools in Orange County. "Our student population is comprised of both domestic and international students, so the Anaheim International Film Festival is a perfect opportunity to contribute to the rich cultural life of the city. It’s a great way for young people to enjoy international films they might not see otherwise. We are glad to be working with the AIFF team and look forward to making this a tradition."
The inaugural Anaheim International Film Festival runs October 13-17, 2010 at the Anaheim GardenWalk. Thousands of attendees are expected to visit the five-day festival and participate in film screenings, master classes and workshops taught by industry professionals, and star-studded gala events. Tickets will be available to the general public beginning September 15, 2010. For moreinformation, please call (714) 991-9110 visit www.anaheimfilm.org.
